• Church members say they own site

Attorneys for parishioners of the closed St. Jeremiah Parish in Framingham today urged a Middlesex Superior Court judge to rule that the parishioners -- not the Archdiocese of Boston -- are rightful owners of St. Jeremiah's land and buildings.

This should be an open and shut case. It depends on the polity of the Roman Catholic Church. The bigger question is, "When is it appropriate to get the state involved in internal church matters?"
