John Lennon...a Christian?

The Gospel According to the Beatles by Steve Turner reveals that John Lennon at one point considered himself a Christian and had corresponded with Oral Roberts, among others.

are you serious..

He felt organized religion did more harm than good. In "Imagine," he sang about a better world where there was "no religion." In his song "God" he sang "God is a concept, By which we can measure, Our pain, I'll say it again, God is a concept, By which we can measure, Our pain" He was not a Christian. He would not dare to label himself such a disgusting name. fuck you people.

John Lennon... a Deist?

John Lennon - Grow Old With Me lyrics

Grow old along with me
The best is yet to be
When our time has come
We will be as one
God bless our love
God bless our love

Grow old along with me
Two branches of one tree
Face the setting sun
When the day is done
God bless our love
God bless our love

Spending our lives together
Man and wife together
World without end
World without end

Grow old along with me
Whatever fate decrees
We will see it through
For our love is true
God bless our love
God bless our love

He felt organized religion

He felt organized religion did more harm than good. In "Imagine," he sang about a better world where there was "no religion." In his song "God" he sang "God is a concept, By which we can measure, Our pain, I'll say it again, God is a concept, By which we can measure, Our pain" He was not a Christian. He would not dare to label himself such a disgusting name. fuck you people. boediger

Actually yes.

Boediger's obviously not a big Lennon fan. Lennon did in fact consider himself a Christian for a time at least. He became a regular viewer of a religious TV program (PTL or 700 club or something like that) and even corresponded with the host. He even wrote some unreleased songs that have very obvious religious messages in them. I've heard some of them. The only person connected to Lennon I know of that disputes this is Yoko.. and well, we all know how trustworthy she is.

Lennon: eternally lost in eternity

Lennon said he wasn't sure whether rock and roll or Christianity would "go first." We do know conclusively, however, that Lennon managed to "go first." Do you listen to any popular singer from the 19th Century; can you even name one? In a century hence, no one will listen to Lennon, and his name will be no more more relevant to 22nd Century man than Rudy Valley or Al Johlson is to the present 21st Century man. Voltaire, possessed of a far superior mind than Lennon's, stated "In twenty years, Christianity will be no more." Within years of his death, the Geneva Bible Society was using his house to print Bibles. Perhaps, everyday since Lennon's death, atheists in hell make his aquaintance and add a truly novel meaning to the lyrics "Imagine there's...no hell below us."
